Really Interesting Things!

Summer Sermon Series
You will notice a change in the pattern of who's taking the services through the Summer; rather than Paul going where there is Communion, or baptisms, he will instead be focussing on specific churches for specific blocks of weeks - being there for several Sundays in a row. This will coincide to a change in the pattern of readings in the services, as they switch to following different new testament books in series - allowing for a series of sermons in specific churches developing themes over several weeks. The line up currently looks something like: 10th July - 24 July, Colossians at Bishop Thornton and Markington. 4th September, Philemon at Burnt Yates and Ripley. 11th September - 23rd October, 1 and 2 Timothy at Bishop Thornton and Markington.

'Considering Our Committees' - Benefice Day, Saturday 8th October 2016
Our PCCs are in agreement that it would be healthy to look at our meeting structures - do we need 5 PCCs, and 4 Benefice Committees, along with the various sub committees and working groups? Can we save time and energy, and be released in other areas of ministry by combining certain functions? What are the options available to us - legally and practically? How do we shape ourselves for growth in the coming years? These are all big questions, and our Archdeacon, Beverley Mason, and the Diocesan Mission and Pastoral Secretary Judith Calvert will be joining us for a Benefice Day to explore them... all very welcome, and encouraged to be present. Put the date in your diary, and watch this space for further details.

Benefice 'Lectures'
We are excited to announce a new opportunity for Christian growth and discipleship in our Benefice. From September we are developing a series of lectures/talks/presentations on various faith-related topics. The plan is to have one every other month, on the third Sunday, in Ripley Church. The first event, on Sunday 18th September, will take the place of the usual Matins service at 1045 am, but following regular talks will begin at 12 noon, giving people an opportunity to gather from wherever they have worshipped (or not!) that morning, and will last for approximately 40 minutes, ending in a bring and share style lunch to give people an opportunity to chew over together what they have just heard. On September 18th we will be welcoming Dr. Jonathan Safarti - see below for more information. On November 20th we hope to be welcoming Christian singer/song writer Chris Milner. More information to follow.
